DESCRIPTION/OBJECTIVES:

Infections are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients. This presentation reviews the physiologic consequences of peritonitis, pathways of infection and presents the latest guidelines for prevention and treatment of peritonitis in PD.

Upon completion of this session, you will be able to: 

• Identify key recommendations for preventing PD-related infections
• Recognize signs and symptoms associated with the diagnosis of exit site infections, catheter tunnel infections and peritonitis
• Describe possible treatment interventions for infectious complications
