Patient-centered care requires understanding patient goals for therapy, which are often different from those of clinicians. Patients value quality of life and are concerned about burden of therapy while clinicians value achievement of clinical targets. Incremental PD as initial therapy provides acceptable quality of life for patients with a lower burden of therapy, while providing quality dialysis that achieves adequacy targets and other clinical measures. It is cost effective while potentially improving time on therapy.
